This is the moon lit up partly by sunlight and earthlight over Turnberry Lighthouse, South Ayrshire.

We’re all accustomed to Moonshine on a full moon lit night, but this is a thin crescent moon with the night side of the moon illuminated by earthshine.
the light from the sun is being reflected off of the earth and illuminating the night time side of the moon. this can occasionally be observed just before and after a new moon when the moon is setting or rising and is a really lovely thing to see.
