Owner and Photographer at Dynamic Scotland Photography

Hi, and Welcome to the Dynamic Scotland Photography Website.

My name is Sylvan Buckley, and photography began for me in the most personal way. Ten years ago, my wife gifted me an entry-level DSLR so I could bring the Scottish highlands home to her. She wasn’t able to explore the mountains and glens with me, so my camera became a way to share the places I loved. What started as a simple gesture grew into a passion that reshaped my life and career.

Over the past decade, photography has become both a creative outlet and a form of therapy — a grounding force that opened doors I never expected. My work has been published across major national and international newspapers and magazines, including two 8-page features in Scottish Field, the UK’s longest-running lifestyle magazine.

Driven by a desire to deepen my craft, I returned to education as a mature student and graduated with an HND in Photography, finishing top of my class and receiving multiple awards, including Art, Fashion & Media Student of the Year and Overall Student of the Year. Those achievements reinforced the belief that I had finally found my path.

Since then, I’ve exhibited my work across Scotland, delivered talks on astro-landscape photography, and returned to Ayrshire College to speak to the next generation of photographers — experiences that reminded me of how powerful sharing knowledge can be.

Photography has given me so much, and part of my mission is to pass that forward. I specialise in landscape and astro-landscape photography, helping others understand not only how to capture the night sky, but how to plan, prepare, and appreciate the complete process behind every image.

Recently, I opened my own photography studio on Saltcoats Main Street — a professional space for portraits, commercial work, product photography, and fashion, as well as a dedicated environment for post-processing classes and workshops. This studio allows me to offer something unique: ongoing, in-depth learning that combines field experience with studio-based editing, giving clients the chance to grow at their own pace.

Whether in the stillness of the Scottish night or the controlled light of the studio, my goal is the same — to create meaningful images and to help others discover what photography can bring into their lives.
