Ranoonoch Moor Fogbow - Rannoch Moor
Rannoch Moor Fogbow- ISO100, 1s, 14mm @f/8
A beautiful fogbow over some trees on the banks of Loch Bà in Rannoch Moor on a cold but fantastic morning on the way home from a great winter trip into the snowy Glen Coe area of the Scottish Highlands.
This was a cold, fresh and stunningly beautiful morning in Rannoch moor that morning, I was on my way home driving along the a82 past Loch Bà in the direction of Bridge of Orchy when the the thick fog started to thin out just a little. I knew the sun was just about to come up and I also knew from experience that once the fog thins to a fine mist and the sun hits it you tend to get some nice fogbow formations,
A fogbow is similar to a rainbow although the vaporised droplets of condensation that make up the mist and fog are too small to refract the colours in the light in the way a rainbow would when scattered through rain so all you see is the refracted light in the water vapour giving a ghost like rainbow formation instead.
So I pulled into the carpark at Loch Bà and waited for the sun to come up and I wasn’t disappointed, the mist thinned out and the sun rose creating this lovely fogbow scene over these lovely Rowan trees on the banks of Loch Bà in Rannoch Moor, Scottish Highlands.
